About AFISwitch

In September 2002, with the commissioning of the SAPS Automated Fingerprint Identification System (AFIS), a semi automated system was introduced. In March 2011, contract was awarded by SAPS to Ideco Group for an automated service. In essence, AFISwitch is an information conduit between SAPS criminal records and the private sector. Ideco is South Africa’s sole provider of automated illicit activity checks for both the private and the public sector. AFISwitch interfaces to the SAPS AFIS to validate the criminal record status of each search candidate. The system provides electronic criminal record status checks based on fingerprints using live scan, FBI-APPROVED flatbed scanner fingerprints data. AFISwitch significantly reduces processing time and increases accuracy when compared to name clearances and manual fingerprints checks. It returns Illicit Activity Reports (IARs) irrespective of whether a hit or no hit results are returned. The system will allow institutions to request pre-employment, corporate and regulations in terms of the Gambling act, thereby establish, within 48 hours, if an individual has a police record.

What are our credentials?

Our system provider has a 15-year exclusive contract with the SAPS to supply this service. JPK has been accredited as a service provider to render the service on behalf of the system provider. Who can use AFISwitch? Individuals, corporate and private enterprises that require compulsory periodic checks, and those needing clearance for commercial purposes.
